- I rejoined myspace today, but I'm only using that page to track friends/family/bands, this page (and My Blog) are where I will continue making my real updates. LOL -- like someone is actually reading this tripe anyway. added August 3, 2008
- I'm sure that my millions of readers have been waiting anxiously for a major update, and here it is at last! The life list is now up to 164. The Simpson Kitties (no longer just boys) is up to 5 now. My nature page has a bunch of updates including my trip to McKey Botanical Gardens. And I finally updated my long neglected blog yesterday. I even updated the music section of this page! Woo-hoo! I'm an updating fool!

- Been a while since I update here... let's see what's new... we had a hail storm a few weeks ago. It only lasted 10 minutes, but we lost a tree and it looked like snow. We went to Alabama last weekend to
visit family, that was lots of fun. The weight loss thing isn't working out too well, haven't progressed any in months, could use some words of encouragement if anyone is still reading this, feel free to leave comments in my blog. added June 14, 2008
- Check out my new feedercam!1 added March 3, 2008
- (Sarah L., on the slim chance that you are reading this, don't click this link till after the Audubon meeting tonight!) Here is my latest work of art,. I created it for a friend for a Chrismas gift. I really like it, and David gave his approval from a technical standpoint. added December 21, 2007
- I updated my Spiders, Nature, and Kitties (My Boys) pages. I also added a new page for before and after pictures, documenting my post-surgery progress. Don't laugh when you see them. No one believes me when I tell them that I don't look any different. I guess when you have 150 to lose, 40 is just a drop in the bucket! added December 18, 2007
- Click here to read all about our little ant problem. Not for the squemish. added August 10, 2007
-
I made another update today, I added a new self portrait page. I wanted to do another one before the surgery. added May 26,2007
- Okay, it's been a million years since I've really updated this web site, it's become quite stale. New today:
If you have any comments, please leave them in my blog. added May 19,2007
- We had a lovely weekend out, including a trip to Green Cuy park. I seem to update my blog more often than this page now, just because it's easier to maintain. I haven't updated my diet happenings lately though because I was taught if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. March 25, 2007!
- I keep forgetting to mention here that phase II of the owl box project was completed in December. Check here for the details, including a movie that Maria sent. In other news, I'm still maintaining my blog, but not as well as I was. I am still doing weight watchers though. Slowly but surely... and don't call me Shirley again. February 18, 2007!
- I joined weight watchers this weekend. I am still maintaing my blog if you are really really bored and want to follow my progress. As always, words of encouragement or mockery are welcome. December 3, 2006!
- David and I took a vacation. September 10, 2006!
- I have finally finished remodelling my bathroom. May 3, 2006!
- It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Omie Ryan Fairbanks Simpson, just 5 days short of her 17th birthday. March 13, 2006!
- I left the house today for a change! David and I went to the Orlando wetlands. I got the best looks at purple galinules that I have ever had. Here's a momma with a youngun and an anhinga.
I've been slacking on my diet and exercise blog, feel free to post obnoxious harassing comments in there, as I've been slacking on the diet and exercise as well as the blog. March 5, 2006!
- I uploaded some art work. Here is "Self Portrait With David" and "Peter Max Influenced Bird House". February 11, 2006!
- We closed on a new house last week! Then, the day after Christmas, I went birding with my buddies Pat and Bill and got some way cool Roseate Spoonbills. I also saw my life Ross's Goose, but I didn't get any pictures of him. December 27, 2005!
- David and I went to Colorado and Wyoming for a vacation. October 9, 2005!
- David and I spent a weekend in St. Augustine August 14, 2005!
- The Owl Box Project is complete! June 2, 2005!
- Here are some new pictures: A prothonitary warbler,
a red-bellied woodpecker,
and sinaed with a duckie.
- David is no longer my boyfriend. But, here is a picture of my FIANCE with Sinaed:-) :-)
- I actually left the house today! I got a Cedar Waxwing and a weird looking American Robin. If you are really bored, I have a new bird slideshow set to music (note that the slideshow requires quicktime and takes a long time to download.)
- Here are our Thanksgiving pictures. Click on them to make them bigger. Objects in pictures may be close than they appear.
- Here are the pictures from the Space Coast Festival.
- I've been getting either creative or bored (it's a fine line) again. Here's a new slide show from Merritt Island. It requires Quicktime or something that plays .MOV files. The pictures are pretty neat, but this takes FOREVER to load (5+Meg).
-
We just got back from vacation. I decided to get creative with our vacation pictures. Click here if you have quicktime or some other way to watch .MOV files. Send me mail if you don't and still want to see our boring vacation pix and I will email them to you.
-
Here is my Resume in PDF format. Please feel free to send forward it on to anyone who might be looking for a writer/editor. I have nearly 20 years experience in technical writing and about 10 years in newletter/layout/design work which I have done for volunteer organizations including the AIDS action committee and Audubon. It would be great to work for a non-profit/environmental group, but it has to be a paid position.
- Wait, stop me if you've heard this one before... we got another hurricane. Here is a picure of our tree that fell down. Here's another one. Here is yet another one. Here is our neighbor, Al, helping us chop the tree up so it can be taken away. This is David fixing our roof from Frances, and this is the mockingbird that was overseeing his job.
-
We are expecting to lose power imminently as we are starting to see some strong winds, but here is the first part of the Hurricane Frances story.
-
So, I decided to treat my self to a new toy! I finally broke down and got a digital camera. Here is the whole family: Sinaed, Omie,
Rebel Rebel, Moi,
David and Sinaed, Me and the Rebel and David. I think I might need a little practice with the camera...
-
Well, as most people have heard by now, David had a horrible accident at work involving a prescribed burn that went out of control. He is much better now and went back to work this week, but here are some pictures of the site that I took this weekend. First, are a few pictures of the
hummer that they used for a
fire truck. In this picture, notice the liquified metal that the red arrow points to in this picture. The heat must have been incredible!
This is the ditch that they jumped into which saved their lives. I cannot believe how green it is already.
In better news, last weekend, we went to the keys. Here is David, in a typical David pose. In my opinion, here is the the cutest picture on the planet:
David with a Key deer.
-
We went home for Heat-Rae and Bill's wedding reception. Here is a picture of me, david, mom and dad and here's one of me, mom, david and smudge.
-
Me and Shirl went to Universal today before I took her to the airport. Here is a new definition for gruesome twosome.
-
Me, shirley and david went to Dixie Stampede last night. Shirley missed the photographer, but here is a picture of me and david there. Is it just me, or do I look like I have my hand down his pants?
- My big sista is here visiting. Here is us at Silver Springs.
-
Let's see what's new... I went to MS to see Karen and her family for Thanksgiving. Here's a picture of me mugging Mel, and here's one of me mugging Scottie. I went to a wildlife festival in November, I bagged a scrub jay.
-
Man, it's been a while since I've updated this thing. Let's see what's new. Hmm.. well. Those of you who know me, know what's new and are sick of hearing about him:-) I have pictures, but just to protect the not so innocent, I haven't linked them here. If you want to see them, send me an email. Other than that, I've been super busy with work. Still doing a lot for Audubon. My latest endeavour is creating a new t-shirt. I am still tweaking it. Here it is in brown and blue. If you have an opionion, let me know which you like best. If you have $15.00 and want to make a donation to the Audubon society, let me know your shirt size and where to ship the shirt to.
My other big news is that my newphew started college. Here I am with Phil and Parker checking out the new dorm.
-
Barb and I saw the most freakish looking bunny
at Ulumay yesterday. He looked like a goth bunny, I half expected him to go home to a little den plastered with pictures of Robert Smith an Bauhaus.
I was also at Viera recently and saw a purple martin or two. I've seen them a lot, but I still can't identify them -- I still can't quite grasp their identifying characteristics.
-
Um, well, perhaps I was hasty... maybe I haven't given up completely yet... 'nough said;-)
-
I got a good deal of birding in this weekend. I went back to Ulumay and found out for certain that it was a green herons nest that I found -- I know because she was home. I went out with Pat and Bill today
and found a ton of roseate spoon bills. We also saw this black neck stilt which wasn't anything unusual, but I think they are really pretty. I didn't get them on film but, we also saw a great crested fly catcher and a pair of nighthawks, both of which were life birds for me. Considering that the weather started out kind of threatening, it turned out quite nice.
-
I bought a new toy today. Check out my review of the Bushnell combination binoculars/digital camera.
-
Still on the diet. See the Progress Page for the gory details.
-
In December, I was diagnosed as being prediabetic (in laymens terms, this means that if I don't lose weight I will most likely develop type II diabetes in the next few years.) I guess the diagnosis has messed with my head; I have actually been gaining weight since December. Both my trainer and the diabetes nurse think I would do better if I had some accountability (basically, I need a baby sitter). Thus, I have updated my Progress Page and added a guest book. Please check in and sign the guest book now and then so that I know someone is watching me. I will update the progress page weekly. If I don't update it, please send me mail asking me why. I have a tendency to not update when I do badly, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of accountability. Feel free to offer encouragement or words of wisdom as well, I could really use some these days.
- I finally remembered to get the pictures developed from when Parker and Shirley were here. Here's one of me and Parker. This was taken at Turkey Creek sanctuary in Palm Bay, where, for a donation, they will carve a plank in the board walk for you. Notice what the plank we are laying on says -- I had it made for my mom for Mother's day last year.
-
Mark this day on your calendar, for alas, it is the day I officially have thrown in the towel and given
up completely. Those of you who follow this web site regularly are familiar with the trials and tribulations of my dating life. Some of you have even assigned the nick names that incidents have been reduced to -- the Ferengi, bagel dude, virtual man, the turtle mollestor, and way too many more to recount. But today was officially the last straw. I had someone answer my personal ad -- he seemed interested in my art work -- however, after a few emails and an exchange on IM, it turned out that he isn't interested actually dating me -- no, he wants me to "photograph his cock" to send pictures to his girlfriend. Why anyone would want me to photograph a pet rooster is beyond me, but I think he was a weirdo. Be that as it may, I have deleted the ad and have officially decided that dying alone cannot possibly be worse than being stuck with what is left on the market.
-
Considering how crappy the holiday season started, it certainly ended on a good note. Shirley and Parker are here visiting. We went to Nasa then we took a ride on an actual space shuttle! Nothing like no gravity to make the diet seem more successful! Shirley and Parker also did the Magic Kingdom, including Splash Mountain. I'm too much of a wimp for that so I stayed home that day although Shirley did FORCE me to do the Rapid ride today.
In other news, mom is doing much better now!
-
Well, in keeping with the family tradition, Thanksgiving was once again spent at a hospital. This time my mom hurled herself down the ice-covered back steps and received a broken tibia and a head injury. Personally, I think it was just a cheap stunt to get me to come home for the holiday. I told her in the future she did not have to go to such lengths, she could just ask. But the good news is that she should be coming home from the hospital in a few days.
-
So, I was screwing around with photoshop again today. I did a self-portrait as Frida. Then I got serious and did a more artistic one that actually came out pretty cool. But all in all I think I've been spending way too much time on the Mac.
- I learned how to use the digital camera and how to air brush. Notice that the icky thing isn't on the side of my face anymore. Ha! And I didn't even have to pay the doctor to freeze this one off!
- The good news is that the walk for breast cancer was a great success; with matching donations from Oracle, our team raised almost $6,000. The bad news is that I got a really hideous haircut last weeekend. This picture is Me, Debbie, and Sheri. (The picture is courtesy of Sheri's friend Gary.)
-
I'm back from vacation but too busy to see straight. I promise there will be picture of Yellowstone/Teton soon.
-
I have a new room mate. Actually, he's lived here since I moved in, but we've never actually run into each other till this weekend. Here's his picture. In other news, I went to the Viera wetlands with Eric last weekend. I thought I saw a limpkin, now I think it was just a glossy ibis -- and looking at the photo, I feel too stupid to post it as in hindsight it was definately a glossy. In other news, I finally have a more recent pic of me, taken by Kim at the Lincoln birthplace national park. I also added a picture that I took when Pat and Bill took me to see the dragon; sadly, the dragon fell into the ocean right after I took this picture. I'm really glad I got to see it.
- Okay, forget the fireworks, the thing I miss the most about home is that there are no lawn nazis who can send me threatening letters AFTER I've already tidied up my yard on my own volution. I hope the little bastard gets root rot.
- Thing I miss most about home: Fire works are illegal. Here the neighborhoodlums can shoot the !@#!@# things off all night and I can't do anything about it; at least back home I could call the cops. I have so many spent shells in my yard it looks like the army thinks I have taliban hiding in my grass. The only thing I have hiding here is the poor cats, who have been hiding under the couch for days. I am quite distressed as Rebel isn't gettting any younger and her heart condition is still there.
- Manny, the trainer at my gym, asked me to post a page detailing my progress at the gym. Here it is. He's actually a better trainer than these pictures would have you believe.
-
Memorial day weekend I went to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky with Kim. This is picture is me near the salt peter mine. I didn't think to figure out how to use the camera in the dark before I went, thus there are no pictures of the neato cool bats or stagamites or stagatites. But it was a tremendously cool trip nonetheless.
-
On May 19, I went home and we had a birthday party for my mom. This is the whole family at the mill at the Wayside Inn. This is Dad, Gene, Lynn and Me inside the Wayside Inn.
- I went skinny dipping in March. Click here to see me frolicking. I've been on a beauty kick and recently got those collogen injections in my lips. Let me know if you think it's too much.
-
I got the pictures back from my little jaunt with Pat and Bill. this is a picture of a mama and three baby great blue herons. The third baby is hard to see, he's on the far right with his face turned away from the camera, he is the runt of the litter and only about half the size of the other two babies.
-
I updated the Our Stories page with a change from Dad. I had the explosive substance wrong in the drug store story. Dad tells them better than me anyway. (Note to family reading this: send me any other updates -- it would be great if we could make this a family effort. I'm hoping to install a blog one of these days so people can just log in and up date it themselves. )
- Here is a picture of me, Sue, and Sarah, at Carroll's birthday party.
- Here is a picture of me, post Locks of Love donation.
- My latest room mate is Rhonda. Here is a picture of her tummy.
-
Me and Theresa went to the Kennedy Space Center. It was fun.
- I finally finished that self-portrait I've been working on for months. Caution: This is a nekkid self portrait and although it is a little abstract, it is still not for the squemish.
-
This is a story called Wanda The Wicked that I wrote for my mom on the plane coming home from visiting her.
-
Check out some Pictures from halloween and my cousin's wedding, as well as the breast cancer walk that I did last summer.
- In other news, my mom and sisters came to visit me last year. See the great pictures, courtesy of Lynn.
- I joined the Audubon Society and created a brochure for them featuring one of my photographs. I am now the editor of The Limpkin, the Indian River Audubon Society chapter newsletter (see above.)
- We threw my parents a 50th anniversary party. I took a photography class last year, got over confident and screwed up almost every picture that I took at the party. Mercifully other people were taking pictures too, so there are lots of good pictures (including, this picture of my friend and "other mother" Chris, Annette, and me together taken at the party; sadly, Chris passed away shortly after this photo was taken, but I happy to have this fond memory.)
